The FRMS Scottish group held a successful Spring Music Day at Discovery Point, Dundee on Saturday, May 8th with a gathering of 36, comprising members from Dundee, Falkirk, Carnoustie, Kirkcaldy, Stirling and St Fillans.

Acting Chairman John Maidment welcomed well known baritone Donald Maxwell as their main speaker who gave a talk entitled 'Maxwell's Mixture' in which he traced his early years spent in the Dundee area.

He included recordings of Nelson Eddy singing

Prince Gama’s aria ‘Yet ev'rybody says I'm such a disagreeable man! And I can't think why!’ from Princess Ida

and Joseph Hislop and the Italian baritone Apollo Granforte singing a duet from Verdi’s ‘Force of Destiny’

The Annual General Meeting followed. Office bearers elected were

Iain Pinkerton, St Fillans Music Circle, Vice Chair,

John Maidment, Carnoustie RMS Secretary

Chris Hamilton, Dundee, Treasurer.

Jim Angus of Carnoustie RMS gave the second programme of the day ‘The Instrumental Side of Opera’.

He included
Rossini’s overture to the Barber of Seville,
the Intermezzo from Calvalliere Rusticana
Liszt’s Paraphrase from Rigoletto
Beethoven’s 7 variations on a theme from Mozart's Magic Flute for cello and piano
and the Bacchanale fro Saint-Saens Samson and Delilah.

The vote of thanks was given by Iain Pinkerton of St Fillan’s Music Circle.
