Theme for 2010"Popular Classics"
Unless stated otherwise, our meetings begin at 7.30 p.m. with a short break for refreshments
January 6th"Old World and New World Composer"
The music of Dvorak including Symphony No.9, Cello Concerto, Slavonic Dance Op.72 No.1 and String Quartet No.12 presented by Brian Pearce, NMS Chairman.
January 20th"The Spirit of Freedom"
The life and music of Beethoven including the Egmont Overture,
Moonlight Sonata, extracts from Fidelio and Symphony No.7 in A op.92
presented by NMS Secretary, Andrew Slatter.
February 3rd"Mozart's Own Instrument"
Music includes Piano Concerto No.9, Jupiter Symphony, Piano Sonata No.13 (played by Lang Lang) presented by Keith Roe, NMS Treasurer.
February 17th"Poet of the Piano"
Cathy Bryant presents a selection of music composed by Fryderyk Chopin including a Polonaise, a Waltz and a Piano Concerto.
March 3rd"Gustav and Alma - a marriage of convenience?"
New presenter, Dr Jim Pritchard, Chairman of the Gustav Mahler
Society UK, presents music composed by Alma and Gustav
Mahler, and discusses their lives together. March 10th"Piano Recital - In Praise of Chopin"
Ian Houston plays a variety of music to celebrate the
two-hundredth anniversary of Chopin's birth.

Members of the Committee play a wide variety of
music that will include some surprises! March 31st"The Violin - Key Instrument of Classical Music"
Joe Stirling plays a variety of music from duets
and quartets to concertos and symphonies. April 14th"Grand Opera Tour 1781"
The music includes extracts from world premieres that took place in 1781 in Rome, Venice, Paris, Munich, Esterhaza, Stockholm and Vienna … and more than Opera. Arranged and presented by music enthusiast from Cardiff, Rainer Lenk, who is NMS President for this year.

Roger Rowe presents music from the forthcoming Norfolk and Norwich Festival. Come along to be among the first to hear the music!
May 26th"Popular Classic Passions"
Roderick Shaw continues our theme for 2010 in a programme

Terry Hepworth from Lowestoft Recorded Music Society plays music transferred from 78rpm records that he has enhanced by the use of CEDAR Audio software.
September 8th"2010 - the year of Rutland Boughton"
Ian Boughton presents music to mark the 50th anniversary of his grandfather's death. Ian gave us an excellent programme when he visited in 2008 and this one should be just as entertaining.
September 22nd"The Best of British"
Popular classics that have stood the test of time from
Tallis to Tavener, arranged and presented by Thelma Shaw. October 6th"Ancient and Modern"
Classical music by Mozart and Schubert compared with
excellent new music by Arvo Part and Herbert Howells.

October 20thAnnual General Meeting
November 3rd"The Music of Mahler"
Keith Smith presents music to celebrate the 150th anniversary of
the composer's birth, including "The Song of the Earth",
"Symphony No.4" and also music by a surprise composer! November 17th"The Music of Tchaikovsky"
Andrew Slatter, NMS Secretary, presents a programme of music including "Marche Slave", "Piano Concerto No.2" and extracts from "The Nutcracker".
December 1st"Brahms Large and Small"
Keith Roe, NMS Treasurer, presents music including
"Symphony No.4" and "String Quintet Op.111" by
one of the most important composers of the Romantic era. December 15th"Christmas Programme"
Celebrate the Christmas season with members' choice of music,
poetry, readings, humorous recordings and carols. Come along
